It's the Victoria Day weekend here in Canada, and I planned to spend it laying low at home, getting some work done, and possibly socializing a tiny bit. I have only accomplished the first thing, because my sinuses have been way acting up. I have chronic sinusitis at the best of times, and I can't tell if I'm fighting a low-grade cold or flu or if it's just the sinuses complaining. Anyhow, I felt super gross yesterday and managed to straighten up my place only a bit. (I was also hoping to get lots of cleaning done. Oh well.)

I also wanted to go out to Gimli on Saturday for a lecture an out-of-town friend was giving, but a whole bunch of logistical snafus in addition to my under-the-weatherness made put the kibosh on that.

Perhaps I should've waited until I got better to write this entry so it wouldn't be so whiny.

Things that have been going on lately:

-Friday was a family dinner at my aunt's place, partly to celebrate my uncle's 65th birthday, my aunt's retirement next week, and also my grandma being in town for a doctor's appointment and a Gaither* concert. (* Do NOT under any circumstances click that link). I was in a weird pre-sick, pre-menstrual mood, and mostly flounced around telling people that they didn't love me. It was rather amusing the extent to which this notion offended my brother's girlfriend.

-Thursday was dinner at Naru (formerly Miyabi) in honour of Laurie (aforementioned out-of-town friend). Company was amazing, the food was amazing (photos and details here), though it was a bit awkward because I have not yet told Laurie about the whole cardiomyopathy thing and a festive sushi dinner seemed like a poor time to bring it up so I was like CHANGE OF SUBJECT PLEASE when she turned to me and said, what's new with you?

-Thursday was also the day when I baked up some Amish friendship bread and took great joy in distributing it to the masses (i.e. people in the office and around campus). I also distributed three bags of starter that day. Amish friendship bread taking over Winnipeg!

-Last weekend was pretty fun; it involved a retro dance party at the Lo Pub. My friends Sarah and Caitlin, known also by the DJ names Mama Cutsworth and Mizz Brown, have been putting on such events monthly at the Lo. They've done '70s, '60s and '50s music and the Saturday last was music of the '30s and '40s. Now, this music is really not much fun to dance to unpartnered, however, it was super fun to dress up in period costume.

Here was my '40s look:
